And here it is with the whole sky tonal y blocked, but unblended – apart from the lower edge to the clouds where I know the light is spilling down in what look like spotlights.

It is a little surreal and yet we know it was how the light was being perceived by the onlooker from the photograph. Truth is stranger than fiction, huh?

Next, I work on this area as a priority because I will need to be able to develop a clean line along the underside of the lower bank of clouds and I can only do this by sweeping the brush along their edge. Therefore, I need the lower area to be completed first.

It’s quite effective once complete, having used downward brush strokes and my Silverline brush to real y soften and smooth the light beams.
